Typically the water pressure in your home should be between 50-70psi. Pressure is directly related to the location of the water source to your property. If your home is at a higher elevation relative to a tank’s location, you will have lower pressure. Conversely, the lower your home is , the higher the pressure.
Low water pressure symptoms:
• A water leak in plumbing
• water softeners or filters that need repaired or replaced
• pressure regulator malfunctioning
• plugged faucet aerators (screens)
High water pressure symptoms:
• A failed pressure regulator
• Water heater pressure relief valve malfunctions
• running toilets
• loud rattling pipes
If you are experiencing any of these issues, please contact us today and schedule a service time where one of our professional and knowledgeable plumbers will identify the problem and correct it for you.
What is your responsibility vs. Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s when your property is experiencing high or low water pressure?
Unfortunately, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities can’t alleviate high water pressure, but consider installing a pressure-reducing valve at your home. County building codes require pressure-reducing valves (PRVs) to be installed on new or remodeled residential plumbing where water pressure exceeds 80 psi.
A PRV reduces the water pressure coming into your home, if needed, to protect your plumbing. We can assess your current plumbing system and recommend whether a PRV is needed for your home.
The Property Owner maintains the water pipe from end of meter box to buildings. The property owner is responsible for pipes and fixtures in the buildings and wastewater pipes until the edge of street or street right-of-way.
Customers who already have a pressure-reducing valve on their plumbing should have it inspected to ensure that it is in proper working condition. Pressure-reducing valves, like all plumbing, has a lifespan and will need to be replaced in the future. Failure to safeguard private plumbing may result in damage to pipes, appliances (hot water heater, dishwasher, refrigerator, etc.) or other private property in and around your home.

Bill,
We see this all the time. I would say if you have fixed the leak which was the first step you now need to bring in a restoration professional. The discoloration and damage needs to be addressed for your own health. The water damage should be covered if you have insurance and it was a sudden leak which caused structual damage.
Blessings,
We recently had a slab leak in our home and have a lot of water damage downstairs and think we may have mold. I'm not sure if testing is a good idea or if we can assume we have mold due to the fact it was a pretty big flood? All our baseboards and drywall got wet about 4 feet up from the floor ... total nightmare!
I appreciate your helpful information.
