Why is my hot water super hot on its own? My water heater is raising the temperature on its own.

Question: Why is my electric water heater raising the temperature of my water by itself?

Answer: If your electric water heater is increasing the temperature of water on its own, you are either dealing with a bad thermostat (need to replace the thermostat) or you have a damaged tube surrounding the heating element. Do not attempt these repairs by yourself; electric water heaters have approximately 240 volts going to the thermostat and can be very dangerous.
