Have you noticed that at times your garbage disposal isn't grinding up the food as well? Or after a while there tends to be an odor coming up from down your drain? Below are a few tips to help keep your garbage disposal running well, clean and odor free and avoid costly repairs:
Don't pour chemicals, bones, plastic, or even coffee grounds down the drain. But do use lemon or orange peels down there to help keep the odor down.
Don't try and sharpen the blades on your own. After a while the blade will become dull. A way to help alleviate this is to throw some ice cubes down the garbage disposal. Because they are strong but have give you can get a nice sharp edge on the blade.
Don't run the disposal without first running water down the drain. Make sure you keep the water on while you are using it and until you are sure the garbage disposal is done with its job.
If you have tried these to no avail, don't hesitate to contact ER Plumbing. We will be happy to send out one of our technicians to determine what the next step should be. We are available 24/7 at no extra charge.
