Charlotte No Dig Trenchless Technology for Commercial Plumbing Projects

You need your commercial sewer line or water line repaired or replaced, but you don’t want to waste time or money on the disruption of sidewalks, parking lots, grounds or your facility. You may not realize a no-mess option is available, but you’re in luck: no dig trenchless technology is now available.

What is Trenchless Technology?

Back in the day, there was only one way of repairing or replacing the sewer line or water line for your business. A plumbing company would dig up your property the entire length of the pipes, which naturally was time-consuming and resulted in a serious disruption of your business and landscaping, not to mention a significant cleanup job.

Today no-dig trenchless technology is available, decreasing the mess and disruption to your business. Here’s how trenchless technology works:

Instead of digging up the entire length of the sewer line or water line that requires attention, trenchless technology uses a hydraulic machine to push or pull a new pipe through an existing pipe. This process is performed laterally, requiring digging only one or two small holes (to access the pipe).

Comparing the Old Excavation Methods to New Trenchless Technology Methods

The traditional method requires opening up the entire trench, a process that can take a few days. During the process, your business suffers significant disruption, and your property resembles an archaeological dig or construction site. After the pipe has been repaired or replaced, landscaping or hardscaping is performed, but it often leaves behind unsightly visible traces. Excavation is time-consuming and can take a toll on your landscaping or business.

Trenchless technologies only require one to two small digging spots, which can be easily landscaped or hardscaped after the work is done. If the project is a sewer line project, the clean-out ports may make it such that no digging is required at all! Minimal damage is done to your business, and in many cases, you will not need to close down while we do the work, or you will only have to suspend your production or services for a short time.

Trenchless Technology Methods for Sewer Line Repair

Your business most likely has clean-out ports through which we can access the sewer line without digging. If your sewer line does not have clean-out ports, then a small hole will need to be dug to gain access to the sewer pipe. We will clear any blockages and proceed with the repair using one of the two methods described below.

  • One trenchless technology method is called cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) liner, which pushes or pulls a deflated pipe coated with adhesive epoxy through the existing pipe. When it is inflated, the adhesive dries onto the inside of the old pipe to create a new pipe liner. The pipe liner is filled with resin, which sets within a few hours, forming a hard new section of sewer pipe. The new liner should last 50 years or longer.
  • Pipe bursting is another trenchless technology that places new piping simultaneously as it blasts away the damaged pipe. A blunt, pipe–bursting tool breaks up the old pipe, and new piping is fed through to take its place.

Trenchless Water Line Installation

Rather than digging a trench to install the new water line, we can dig two holes and use directional drilling to bore a hole large enough to feed a new flexible water line through it. This method uses lateral boring technology similar to the technology used in mining or other civil engineering projects.

Benefits of No Dig Technology

Trenchless pipe repair benefits include:

  • Much quicker than traditional sewer line repair or water line installation
  • Almost no mess and very little downtime
  • Minimal disruption to your business
